Now more than ever it is important for local businesses and individuals to have the information they need to protect themselves online. Cybercrime is conservatively estimated to cost Australians more than $1 billion per year, but at the same time, technology underpins the day-to-day operations of Australian businesses.
The Turnbull Coalition Government is committed to working in partnership with the business community to promote a safe and secure internet which enables business and individuals to thrive online, while managing the risks.
The Stay Smart Online website has been developed by the government and provides a number of important resources free of charge. These include:
- Stay Smart Online Alert Service is a free subscription service which provides easy to understand safety and security information and solutions. It informs users about the latest threats and vulnerabilities within the Australian context, and how to address risks to devices and networks.
- Small Business Guide: Protect Your Business Online in 5 Minutes was developed to help put in place some basic online security practices. It will take only a few minutes to read through the five easy steps, which provides the basics on how to protect the information entrusted to businesses by their customers and suppliers.
- My Guide: Protect Yourself in 8 Steps is designed to help individuals develop and maintain practical skills to increase their personal security and safety online.
- Security Awareness Implementation Guide is a collation of a few simple tips from businesses that are effectively managing their information security risks. This Guide provides practical tips for businesses at a range of sizes and stages of developing information awareness and security programs – whatever your budget.
Hard copies of the Small Business Guide and My Guide are available through my office – located at 3 Boas Avenue Joondalup, across from Hogs Breath Cafe. I would encourage everyone to make use of these resources.
